congratulations on your writing a thing! writing things is hard and i am impressed you did it! yaaaaay! totes not congratulating you to procrastinate on finishing my own paper, that would be a baseless accusation to make - but seriously proud of you
You are a diamond in the rough, my friend. Too good to me, too good. Also you have the power to write whatever you want because your German prowess is intense.
my politics of southern africa class has probably made my economics lean real heavily towards marxism, which is always a fun time
Yeah, one of those “HUAC would have investigated me if I were a famous person in the 50’s” kinds of times
Thanks to everyone who responded to my recent text post so kindly. Tumblr is being terrible and I can’t reply to anything, but I love and respect each of you and I’m glad that you are here!
so would you say you… arrived fifteen minutes late with starbucks to the ‘arrived fifteen minutes late with starbucks’ meme?
Elena oh my GOD
“After her drunken tumble down a flight of stairs, Rose rambles to Kanaya for a change.”
A fic I wrote (!) because there isn’t enough classless, goofy, mutually inept Rose/Kanaya in the world. They try so hard! And get pretty far, actually.
longroadstonowhere replied to your post: I know Karkat’s VERY PROPER AND ACADEMIC term for…
it didn’t even occur to me that that might be a fandom term, wow, how much worldbuilding have fans done for trolls that hussie never even touched, man
Yeah! I don’t know if anyone ever said “quadrant flipping” in canon but IIRC only Hussie and Karkat talk about the concept and they’re all about technical, formal terms. The fandom has its useful shorthands and that reflects something about whether Karkat’s phrasing is viable colloquially
I love this a lot b/c Karkat, being the big romance novel/romantic comedy movie fan as he is, is doing the same shit we do when we drop terms like “Lampshade Hanging” and “Xanatos Gambit.” A typical troll would probably say, “The characters flipped quadrants a lot,” while he’ll insist, “It was a typical example of Quadrant Vascillation.” Nobody talks like that unless they spend a lot of time thinking about tropes. This was one reason why it was so funny to me when Karkat tried to apply romance novels to his real life relationships
yessss! subjunctive is the dreamer’s cIause : ‘if i were a rich man’ sings zero mosteI - but of course he is not —- does that make any sense at aII ?
Yes it does! You make it sound so romantic!
that’s probably for the best since SUBJUNCTIVE IS SILLY ANYWAY GOSH WHY DO WE EVEN HAVE THAT TENSE
lol yeah but when I am writing for ACADEMIA and/or LITERARY MERIT I feel more compelled to be ~*proper*~
It's AS IF SHE WERE anytime there is an if it becomes the subjunctive mood and it's NOT IRRELEVANT OR SOMETHING TO IGNORE giving Elena the side-eye forever
HAHAHAHA omg PASSIONATE grammar responses! I am so glad I asked you all; thank you very much!
That said I changed it to “as if she’d told a riddle,” because she had stopped talking. I will keep what I have learned today in mind, though!
longroadstonowhere replied to your post: Oh right I forgot I said I would be “more subtle”…
there was so much subtlety all over that post, it was like maple syrup on a stack of pancakes
Alas, too much subtlety to handle in one sitting. Gotta put those pancakes in the fridge.
