PoC get attacked all the time for their beliefs in different God. We’re ridiculed and eaten alive because of our differences. I don’t understand when ‘Hinduism’ became a trend.
If you look at history, IF YOU READ HISTORY PROPERLY, Hindus were beheaded, our women were raped and our children and men were murdered if we continued to follow our faith.

In the intervening years, I’ve been approached many times about many things. Virtually all of those things were attached to a minority character, most hilariously including Firestorm, whom DC approached me about and I actually said I’d give it a try before discovering Firestorm was now black. *sigh*

There are two instant “yes”-es in my vocabulary: Batman and Iron Man. Yes. Without question. That’s the smallest piece of fanboy remaining in me. But that’s had 30 years to happen and it hasn’t thus far. Beyond that, I’ve said, repeatedly, that if a publisher wants to get real and offer me a gig—not an opportunity to run in circles and then jam me—I’d look at it. Flash, Green Lantern, Thor, Deadpool. But if my name only comes to mind when looking for a writer to helm The New Black Mambo, thanks but no thanks. It really won’t bother me to never write comics again. That’s not a choice I’ve made, but I have made a choice to be a writer, not a black writer. I am more than busy doing work that actually matters—feeding the hungry, comforting the lowly, preaching the Good News. Doesn’t pay nearly as well, but the gig comes with amazing fringe benefits.

Even though the tintype was often casual it was also sometimes very formal. In this image a black woman poses for her picture in what must be her “Sunday best” dress, gold jewelry, and an extraordinary hat. One hand rests on a book and the other on the arm of a posing chair. Her earrings, ring, chains, and locket have all been retouched in gold.

I bought this unmarked tintype with another tintype of a black woman identified as by a West Indies photographer. The arm of the posing chair is similar. This does not prove they are from the same studio but may suggest a connection.

This makes me so happy.

This is a Holmes knocked from the pedestal of the dispassionate gentleman detective. His relationship with his addiction forms the core of his character, of secondary importance only to Watson in his development throughout the season. And Jonny Lee Miller’s fantastic incarnation of Holmes makes sure we feel the weight of addiction in a show that takes it seriously. He suffers the aftermath, and must face the realities of recovery — no easy thing for a man who trades on the illusion of invincibility with all the gusto of the Conan Doyle original.

Also keeping him humble: his supporting cast. There’s a popular misconception — the fault of many an adaptation — that Holmes is a supergenius accompanied by an admiring everyman and surrounded by dunces. Conan Doyle’s Watson and Gregson would beg to differ, and so this Holmes lives in no such vacuum; he’s never the only clever person in a room. When he reveals his addiction, Gregson (not unkindly) points out that as a detective, he had that covered. His sponsor Alfredo’s skills in the repossessionary arts outclass Holmes’s by a mile. He acknowledges Moriarty as more than a match for himself. Even housekeeper/librarian Ms. Hudson has the effortless memory to which Holmes aspires.

And in Watson, he’s found an equal — and that’s what the show’s not-so-secretly about.
